Dr. Vera Köpsel, Marine Social Science, Stakeholder Engagement, Communication & Design, Universität Hamburg, IMF, Fischerei

I see myself as a human geographer turned marine social scientist
with a soft spot for exploring different perspectives –
scientific and beyond.

After studying physical and human geography for my BSc and MSc degrees, my PhD focused on societal perceptions of landscape and their influence on adapting to climate change and coastal erosion. For my Postdoc I transitioned into the field of marine science in 2018. I currently work at the Institute for Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science (IMF, University of Hamburg) where I coordinate Stakeholder Engagement & Communications in the EU H2020 project FutureMARES. My research focuses on marine scientists’ perceptions of and experiences with stakeholder engagement. Moreover, I work in a consulting role for organisations such as the European Commission and UNESCO, sharing my expertise on how to engage stakeholders into (research) projects.
